My 1st Quarter

I've learned the basics about the Internet and it's functions. From its history to how web servers and web browsers work, from data types to internet tools and services, from protocols to using a search engine, and from the definition of blogs to create my own blog. I've leaned a lot and gained information that will truly help me in my journey through the internet.

I had problems and difficulties in coping up with lesson when I need to go and attend activities of the school especially the nutri jingle competition. In terms of lessons, I only had difficulties on memorizing the dates on the history of the internet because I am weak at memorization. But when it come to the application of the knowledge I have gained, I could say I did a pretty good job.

In coping up with the lessons, I had the help of my wonderful classmates who were more than willing to guide me in the discussions and activities that I might have missed. In terms of the lessons, I did my best in reviewing and for me the result of the exam matter only bit, its about how I've applied the knowledge that I've gained.

For the next quarters of S.Y. 2019-2020, I will improve further my skills and do my best in attaining higher scores in activities, quizzes, and the periodic exam. I will not forget the lessons that this quarter has given me thus it will serve as my foundation on the following lessons. This is my 1st quarter, see you on the next one!

Prevention is Better than Cure

NDRRMC or National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is a working group of various government, non-government, civil sector and private sector organizations of the government of the Republic of the Philippines established by Republic Act 10121 of 2010.

“Kahandaan sa sakuna’t peligro para sa tunay na pagbabago”. Disasters are unexpected but natural in the Philipines. Its yearly occurance is felt and and known by Filipinos. But we still suffer enourmous casualties and danger. We are used to these disasters but we still face war with have the NDRRMC to educate as preparedness and reaction in any disaster.

We experience a lot of natural hazards or disasters in the Philippines, namely volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and typhoons that can cause other catastrophic calamities like storm surges and tsunamis. These are natural and are experienced every year in the Philippines because of its geographic location.

Resiliency is key! It is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties or toughness of a certain individual which can be associated with a certain country called the Philippines. These are only disasters, we are Filipinos! We are strong people and we can overcome any challenge. We just have to be prepared and follow the safety precautions for any disaster.  Let us be prepared for any disaster because prevention is better than cure!

Nutrition Month? Nutrition Year!

“Kumian ng wasto at maging aktibo, push natin to!” or in simple words we need healthy diet and exercise to implement a good lifestyle, where in we are physically fit.

Weight management is a long-term approach to a healthy lifestyle. It includes a balance of healthy eating physical exercise to equate energy expenditure and energy intake. Many Filipinos suffer from malnutrition, specifically obesity and underweight people. As part of the youth, our weight is proportional to our health. To be healthy, we need to have normal weight or BMI. There are so many diseases that are anchored to our weight and style.

Having an unhealthy life style like having many vices can lead to many diseases. Being obese can also lead to diabetes and cardiac sickness. To not be associated with any disease, we need to be healthy, physically active, and happy.

Let us not make July the only month where we practice a healthy lifestyle, instead make it only as a months of reminder, bridging the two halves of the year. Reminding us to be healthy all throughout 2019, especially during ber-months where there are a lot of typhoons that may affect our health leading us to catch diseases. During the ending months of the year we experience a lot of holidays resulting to a lot of feasts. Let us not be careless and watch our calorie consumption and exercise to burn the fats we accumulate. Stay active and health throughout 2019 and the next years of our lives!

GROUND BREAKING

Earthquakes are natural disasters which are prone to the Philippines. We have already experienced extremely strong earthquakes with high magnitudes or intensifies. If a 7.5 magnitude happen to hit the school during classes, will the student know what to do? Or will they panic and do stupid actions because of their lack of seriousness?

I find the earthquake drills to be very important and helpful, especially in improving our readiness and preparedness for earthquakes. But these are useless if the students or participants of the drill don't take it seriously. What if it was a real earthquake? Will they still laugh and act like children? Will they still act sluggish and show that they don’t care?

It’s amazing to see how the government pushes students to be prepared for disasters. And as students to be prepared for disasters. And as students, we should also show our seriousness in these kinds of authorities so that when the real earthquake strikes, we are mentally prepared.

There are countless of safety tips that are applicable to earthquake. Stay away from tall buildings and evacuate to an open area. Apply “duck, cover, and hold” and be calm but alert. Make sure you have a med kit and survival kit always with you.

I encourage my fellow students to take this drill seriously. We never know the impact and danger of an earthquake unless we are facing it already. Drop the heard headed mindset, maniana habits, and ningas kogon from our culture. Be safe and be prepared!

Promises Aren't Made to be Broken

Ilocos Sur National High School
Gomez St. Vigan City
June 13,2019
Dear Pres. Rodrigo Duterte,
Promises are meant to be fulfilled, not broken. What has happened to your campaign against drugs? What about your 6 months to eliminate crime and corruption? What about your vow to end poverty for more than 100 million Filipinos? What has happened to your promise-filled administration?

I’m so sorry honorable president. I know that you are given a tough task in fixing the Philippines, but I cannot let myself be blind and not see your major failures as president. First of all, your campaign against drugs and crime has failed. Extra judicial killings have increased in the past few years, you have killed small cartel drugs dealers, but have you stopped millions of drugs imported and exported by powerful and high profiled dealers.

Second, these has been high inflation rates because of train law. How can you end the never dying problem of Philippine poverty?

Lastly, if you can fix your mouth, it will gladly be appreciated. Joking about rape and cursing in front of the media won’t help your name as president.

Hoping you can still fix the mess. Thank you for trying to fix the Philippines. All your efforts are still appreciated.

A representative of the Filipino Youth,

Ken

filipiNO Independence

Are we really fully independent as a country? Do we really just rely on our own resources and not use the exports from other countries to develop? Does our culture really stand out as the culture of “Filipinos” and not just a B-tech culture that is copied from the three countries who colonized us? In the 121 years we have declared independence, how independent have we really been?
We Filipinos have been colonized by three countries, 333 by the Spaniards, 48 years by the Americans, and three years by the Japanese. All three of these powerhouse countries have influenced and changed how we lived then and how we are living now. We have attained our so called freedom and democracy, but we are not independent culturally and economically as a country. We have the so called “colonial mentality” where we prioritize or patronize the products and behaviors of other countries.

There is also a current issue where in there is an increase of Chinese Nationals imported and working inside our country. Chinese nationals have tripled during the Duterte Administration. Filipinos who have graduated and passed their board exams already have a hard time of achieving employment, what more now that we have Chinese nationals competing for their jobs?

I'm encouraging you to be independent in your own way. Support our local Filipino products and never forget our roots and traditions wherever we go. Never let anyone step on our country, let's defend it with our bold nationalism and pride.

Ken in a Paragraph

Born and circumcised in Metro Vigan Cooperative Hospital but grew up with the smell of burnay in Brgy. 7. I did not like the taste of coffee when i was young but now I see its importance. I don't know how to sing and dance but know how to clap for someone who does. I may not be the most talented or interesting person but if you want a good conversation you can always tell me. I am an expert in cooking pancit canton and my favorite flavor is sweet and spicy. I believe in the saying "Chase excellence and success will follow". I often play Mobile Legends and I am Diadi no. 7 Grock, I want to use Grock!
